General Survey Guidance Statement

If you completed a survey in fall 2004, please review your and revise your saved data. Please note that we have added additional questions since the original survey.

If you're filling out the survey for the first time, please follow these guidelines:

  1. Please complete this survey for any datasets/databases that your organization has the authority to share. For a definition of appropriate datasets, click here
  2. We recognize that organizations have varying numbers of datasets available to share. If you have multiple datasets, please fill out one survey for each dataset. The form is set up to copy relevant information from a prior survey, allowing you to change where applicable. However, if this is unreasonable given the number of datasets you are contributing, please ensure that the Organization Info, Contact Person and Data Storage and Sharing sections are filled out and contact Tom Shyka (207-773-0423) or Sylvia Most (207-730-2673) to discuss data input alternatives.
  3. This survey will be updated periodically as the Gulf of Maine Ocean Data Partnership continues to work through the tasks associated with the work plan. This process will serve at least two functions. We anticipate that the information provided through this survey will form the minimum metadata record for organizations that do not yet have a metadata record for their datasets. In addition, we will use this information to begin development of an interoperability demonstration.

We appreciate your continued input.

Authority = Ownership rights or formal distribution agreement with the data provider. If in doubt on whether you have the proper authority, please contact Sylvia Most (207-730-2673) to clarify.

Definition of appropriate datasets: The Gulf of Maine Ocean Data Partnership is primarily interested in datasets related to surface waters (no groundwater data) in the Gulf of Maine watershed area (as defined by the image on the back page of the Gulf of Maine Times winter 2004 edition) which have multiple years worth of data or are such that a one-time data collection effort is sufficient (such as a one-time eel grass mapping).
