IDV Model Interoperability Demo
The Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) from Unidata can be used to browse and visualize the model output served in the Model Interoperability Pilot Project.
Step 1: Install IDV 2.4 (or higher) on your computer from http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/idv. All Unidata software is free, but you need to register to obtain IDV if you have not previously downloaded Unidata software.
Step 2: Start IDV, and on the Dashboard window, go to "Data=>New Data Source=>From a Web Server" and then cut&paste (using <cntrl-v> to paste) this address:
http://stellwagen.er.usgs.gov/models/gom_interop/interop_2005may9.xidv
Step 3: Your screen should look like the one below. There are two temperature sections and two maps of bottom temperature from two different models. On the Map View window, under "Legend", try clicking the check boxes of the various displays to toggle visibility. Or click and drag the end points of the lines that control the vertical sections. Try going to the Dashboard window, click the "Field Selector" tab, and then try selecting another 2D or 3D field and making a new display. If you are not experienced with IDV, you will probably need to click on "help" or go take a IDV tutorial. There is a bit of a learning curve here!Step 4: Explore some of the other data sets in the interoperability demo: go to "Data=>New Data Source=>From a Catalog" and cut&paste (using <cntrl-v> to paste) this address:
